Thanks to a large anonymous donation to the Friends of the Library, Alice Through the Looking Glass painting is returning to the library after nearly a year and a half long restoration project.
Alice, painted by Oakely E. Richey, was presented to the library in 1941 - in memory of Marcia Ethelwyn Mendenhall Snedden, daughter of Edgar and Marsha Mendenhall. Edgar Mendenhall was a professor at Pittsburg State University.
The Alice painting has been a cornerstone of the children's department for 75 years. Thanks to the Friends, Alice was cleaned, repaired and reframed by Mary Schafer, Conservator of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
